Owen House Wedding Barn in Mobberley
Owen House Wedding Barn is an amazing and unique family-run venue located in Mobberley, Cheshire.
It was lovingly restored and converted to a wedding venue back in 2013, which was around the same time I made the leap into my career as a full time Manchester-based wedding photographer.
Over the last few years I’ve got to know the family who own and run the venue as well as the other people who work there. It’s a superb place with bags of character and rustic charm. The staff are some of the best in the wedding industry, everything runs like clockwork and you are guaranteed a warm welcome.
I also feel privileged that Owen House Wedding Barn recommend me to their couples. I’m genuinely honoured to have a trusted spot on their friends and recommended suppliers list.
Rustic barn wedding venue in the Cheshire countryside
Barn-style wedding venues seem to have sprung up all over the UK in the last five to ten years or so, and I can certainly see their appeal – from my experiences working within the wedding industry, they tend to attract a more laid-back type of couple who wish for an alternative to the traditional country house style venues that seem to dominate the wedding venue market.
One of the many things I love about Owen House Wedding Barn is how versatile it is when it comes to the extremely unpredictable British weather.
The barn area is a large space and has plenty of photography-friendly natural light coming from the windows built into the roof structure, this is particularly beneficial when it is raining or very cold outside and the guests will tend to congregate around the bar area.
There is also the hay bales area located adjacent to the civil ceremony room. This is a really funky place which is technically outdoors and open to the elements, but with the advantage of being completely covered so you won’t get wet if it rains.
If the weather is poor, I use this area for taking the formal group photos as the natural light is excellent.
What about numbers?
The main barn area can seat up to 200 people for the wedding breakfast.
The civil ceremony room can seat up to 120 people and has standing room for up to 150 guests.
Up to 250 guests can be accommodated for the evening reception.

Is there accommodation on-site?
Another great feature of Owen House Wedding Barn is the incredible on-site accommodation which can be used exclusively for you and your guests.
The accommodation is super cool and consists of eight double rooms and two family rooms. The rooms have been beautifully styled by eclectic furniture and interiors company Graham and Green. Each room has a private bathroom, flat screen TV, Cloud 9 hairdryers, Wi-Fi as well as a coffee machine and tea-making facilities.
The Birds and Bee’s Suite is designed to be used by the happy couple and comprises of a bedroom, sitting room and bathroom. There are also wingback chairs, footstools and a Prosecco shelf. And if you’re feeling brave, there’s an outside copper bath with views over the fields!
Additionally, there is also an on-site bed and breakfast located next to the main wedding barn. This traditional farmhouse consists of two double rooms and one twin room, each with its own bathroom. The rooms are spacious and offer lovely views over the garden or the Cheshire countryside.
Breakfast is also included in the room price.
Is Owen House Wedding Barn dog friendly?
Yes, it most certainly is, and as you may have already guessed, I absolutely adore dogs.
Not too long ago, I published a Dogs at Weddings blog on my website so please do pop over and have a nosey if you want to see some photos of dogs enjoying themselves at weddings.
Over the last few years, several dog chaperone services have popped up to provide for couples who want their dogs as wedding guests. They will look after your dog for the duration of your wedding day and bring them along after your ceremony for a few photos with you and your guests. Many will have them overnight too.
As with all dog friendly wedding venues, please chat with the Owen House Wedding Barn staff beforehand to ensure you are aware of which parts of the venue are safe for dogs and which are out of bounds.
Photography at Owen House Wedding Barn
I’ve had the pleasure of photographing at Owen House Barn on many occasions over the years and I absolutely love it, it really is a fantastic venue with amazing and attentive staff who genuinely take immense pride in what they do.
It’s super important to me that my couples look back on their wedding photographs and remember how they were feeling at the time, not what the photographer was telling them to do.
With that in mind, I recommend around fifteen minutes on the day for some photos of just the two of you, plus I’ll always take some formal group photos if desired. But other than that, I won’t take you away for hours so that you miss all of the action.
I want you to spend your day having fun with your family and friends, just as it should be.
