Cockley Wood Weddings in Wakefield, Yorkshire is a breathtaking wedding venue situated within eight acres of mature woodland, conveniently located between the hills of Wakefield and Huddersfield. I’ve been privileged enough to have photographed several times at Cockley Woodland Weddings and it is easily one of my favourite places to work.
The team are super-friendly and some of the most welcoming I’ve experienced in my ten years as a wedding photographer. It’s a family-run business and you can read more about how Cockley Wood Weddings came about here.
Woodland wedding venue in Yorkshire
Cockley Wood is definitely the type of venue that seems to appeal to the more laid-back couples who enjoy spending their time in the great outdoors. It’s ideal for those who desire an outdoor wedding ceremony but with the reassurance that there is protection from the rain should the weather turn out to be wet.
It has rained on a couple of occasions whilst I’ve been working there and the canopy over the ceremony area is superb with everyone staying nice and dry.
There is a double teepee on-site, adjacent to the ceremony area for you and your guests to enjoy your wedding breakfast and evening party. The teepee can seat up to 120 guests with adequate space for a total of 150 guests into the evening celebrations.
There are two bars on site – one inside the teepee and another outside near to the fire-pits. The bars are always well stocked but please contact the venue for specific requirements as they do offer a variety of drinks packages tailored to your needs.
There’s no need to worry about toilet visits either, high specification toilet facilities are provided and can be tailored to your party size.
Power and water is also provided for caterers and any other suppliers you may hire for your day. And of course, first aid and fire safety facilities are available.
Cockely Wood Weddings location and parking
The venue is located at Liley Ln, Ninevah Farm, Grange Moor, Wakefield, WF4 4EN. There is parking on site for thirty cars with the ceremony space and teepee just a two minute walk into the woods.
If you’re not driving, Cockley Wood recommend pre-booking a taxi to take you home or to your accommodation as Uber isn’t an option this far into the countryside.
There is ample hotel and guesthouse accommodation nearby in Huddersfield and Wakefield.

Is Cockley Woodland Weddings dog friendly?
Yes, it most certainly is! Every time I’ve photographed a wedding at Cockley Wood there has been a dog amongst the guests. And that makes me very happy as I absolutely adore dogs.

Recently a number of dog chaperone services have popped up to provide for people who want their dogs as wedding guests. They will look after your pup for the duration of the wedding day, and lots will have them overnight too.
They can bring them along after your ceremony for a few photos with you and your guests. The superbly named Bow Wow Vow are one I’ve worked alongside several times in Yorkshire and a couple of times at Cockley Wood Weddings.
As with all dog friendly wedding venues, please chat with the venue staff beforehand to ensure you are aware of which parts of the venue are safe for dogs and which are out of bounds.
Environmental impact
More and more couples are considering the impact on the environment that their wedding will have.
Cockley Wood Weddings are investing in the future sustainability and eco-friendliness of their venue, with plans in place to introduce a renewable energy storage system. This would mean that every wedding held at the venue will have a much reduced impact on the planet as a whole.
Additionally, the owners want to continue creating worthwhile sustainable jobs in the area for local people and local suppliers.
Wedding photography at Cockley Woodland Weddings
I’ve had the pleasure of photographing at Cockley Woodland Weddings on several occasions and I absolutely love it, it really is a cool place with amazing staff who genuinely take great care in what they do. The venue tends to attract the type of couples I enjoy working with – relaxed, fun, outdoorsy and dog-loving.
I’ve always said that I want my couples to look back on their wedding photographs and remember how they felt at the time, not what the wedding photographer was telling you to do.
With that in mind, I recommend around fifteen minutes on the day for some photos of just the two of you, plus I’ll always take some formal group photos if desired. But other than that, I won’t take you away for hours so that you miss all the fun.
I want you to spend your day with your family and friends, just as it should be.
