A simply magnificent outdoor wedding at Trafford Hall in Chester
Getting married outside is not particularly common in the UK for obvious reasons, so I must say how brave Stephanie & Paul were for throwing caution to the wind and pinning their hopes on being able to say their vows in the woods behind Trafford Hall in Chester.
As it turns out, we needn’t have worried as the weather was absolutely superb on the day and it was incredibly mild for late March.
Built in 1756, Trafford Hall is a historic Georgian mansion and is rather unique due to the fact that it is run as a not for profit venture. All the proceeds from the many events held here throughout the year are reinvested to fund the upkeep of the venue and the surrounding grounds. Grab yourself a brew and enjoy the story of Steph & Paul’s special day.
I’ve made many wonderful friends in the wedding world, I’ve never met a more dedicated and hardworking group of people. During this wedding I got to work alongside some of my closest friends from the industry.
Jo Gendle of Jo Gendle Films is an outrageously talented videographer, I’ve worked with her on a few occasions. Below is a snippet from her film of the day.
Liz Thompson of Unity Civil Celebrancy conducted the ceremony. Written solely for the bride and groom, Liz’s words told the story of Steph & Paul’s journey in a completely unique way. Liz is one of the kindest people I know and it was such a pleasure to work alongside her again and witness first hand how she delivers totally bespoke ceremonies.
Lauren Jo Kelly was my second shooter on the day, providing a second pair of eyes and assisting me where necessary. I love working with Lauren, she’s dedicated, funny, quirky and a bloody talented photographer. She’ll be accompanying me on many of my forthcoming weddings so please get in touch if you want to add a second photographer to shoot your day.
Diddibox Flowers are at the pinnacle of floral artistry. They provided the vibrantly coloured flowers on the day and one of my shots has since made the cover of their latest wedding guide as seen below.
Thanks to Steph & Paul for booking me to photograph their day, I had a brilliant time mingling with your family and friends.
If you’re looking for a documentary style wedding photographer then please get in touch, I have limited availability for 2017 with 2018 dates going fast. Book before 1st June 2016 to secure your dates at my current prices.
Be nice to each other and remember, peace is free.

Beautiful images as always Steve and a great blog, thank you for your kind words about me and my ceremonies, reading it brought a tear to my eye, some lovely memories… It was a fabulous wedding from start to finish. Steph, Paul and Jack looked stunning (a gorgeous family in every way) the sun came out for the only day that week. You Jo and I working together for the first time as a team. Perfect xx
Thank you so much Liz, it really was a cracking wedding! x
Outdoor weddings are the way to go! Wish I got to work with you and Liz every week as you are both such a talent and have a unique way of telling a story. Until next time…….. Hopefully soon xxx
Indeed they are Jo. I’ve done 3 outdoor weddings over the last couple of years and all have been in good weather. It really doesn’t rain as much as people think it does, and venues always have a plan B. Thanks for the kind comments. 🙂 x
Great work guys! Outdoors weddings are super fun if the weather holds up! Cheers from rainy London 🙂
Thank you very much indeed. I agree, outdoor weddings are brilliant if the weather is good! 🙂
